About Us

It all Started with a Tree!

Slabathor’s story starts 7 years ago: a cherry tree was leaning over my parents house.  They cut down and had it milled into slabs, it dried for 4 years.

I finally got around to making one of the slabs into a desk. I built a quick router sled and went to work, beyond excited to finally be working with this tree. I hated it. I spent most of the 3 hours it took to flatten that piece thinking about ways to avoid doing that ever again.

From Problem to Prototype

Instead of 3 more hours for another table, I started working on the first version of what would become Slabathor. Everything was off the shelf most of it was off a shelf in my garage. It wasn't very impressive, but it started saving me a lot of time and letting me take on some really fun projects.

After a lot of great feedback from other woodworkers I respect, I kept developing Slabathor in my spare time. The first few versions rapidly improved the rigidity, dependability, and repeatability. Before I realized it, I was putting the same level of rigor into Slabathor's design as the touchscreens, driverless cars, food robots, and various other hardware platforms I have worked on and shipped. I've spent the last year focused on bringing Slabathor to the market, ready for mass production.
