Congratulations on buying your brand new Slabathor!  If you are thinking about flattening some really wide slabs, this page is for you.  The Rail on Rail setup is just as easy as the normal setup.  With a few tips, your next dining room table is a few button presses away.

How Big of a Slab can I flatten?

with the rail on rail setup, you can go as wide as you want to.  Each pass can flatten 30" x as long as your rails are.  If your slab is wider than 30", you can slide the rails you have along another set to take another 30" pass.  The rails can be anything you have.  I made a quick YouTube video of the rail on rail setup here

Have any Customers sent in Awesome Pictures of their Setups?

You betcha.  One of the most impressive so far is this 16' x 60" setup.  The whole long 16' rail slides along a 60" track so they can flatten super long pieces in 2 passes.

Do You have any Diagrams of the Rails?

The blue rails in the picture above are as wide as your slab, and maybe even wider, to make sure you have enough runway for slabathor to go back and forth.  The gray rails are 41.5" apart and stiff enough to cover the span of the blue rails.  I really like 2" square steel tubing.  It offers a really nice blend of strength and affordability.

What does Square Stock look Like for Rail on Rails?

The good people at the Skagit Wood Expo let me borrow their setup, and this is what they put together.  2" square stock in a welded frame that slides really easily across the plywood rails.

What Materials can I use for Rails?

2" Square steel tubing is a great choice.  If you have the End-Stop v1s that are slightly too narrow, reach out and let's figure out how to fix it: matt@slabathor.com.  

Angle Iron works really well, if you have a lot of it.

If you don't have metal working or spare metal laying around, a 2x4 connected to a vertical 2x6 provides a great flat surface, with enough rigidity and strength to not sag across medium spans, and you can upsize the 2x6 if you want to go really far spans.  In the picture below, the 2x4 is rendered in cherry and the 2x6 is rendered in oak.  You'll need to modify the end pieces to the end-stops can fit on, or make your own magnet holders.
